Design, Synthesis, and Herbicidal Evaluation of Novel Uracil Derivatives Containing 1,3,4‐Thiadiazolyl Moiety

Abstract: Uracil derivatives, such as commercial herbicides butafenacil and benzfendizone, have been identified as inhibitors of protoporphyrinogen oxidase (Protox, EC 1.3.3.4), one of the most important action targets of herbicides. In order to search for novel Protox inhibitors with high efficacy, broad‐spectrum activity, and safety to crops, commercially herbicide butafenacil was used as lead compound for further optimization; a series of title compounds 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d, 8e, 8f, 8g, 8h, 8i, 8j, 8k, 8l, 8m, 8n were des… Show more

“…They had a wide range of biological features, including bactericidal, antifungal, insecticidal, , and anticancer properties in medicine. These compounds not only functioned as effective fungicides but also served as vital plant growth regulators and herbicides, among other chemicals. Commercially available 1,3,4-thiadiazole agricultural fungicides included thiazole zinc, bismerthiazol, thiamethoxam copper, thiessen copper, and others.…”

“…1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives were widely used as pesticides in agrochemical chemistry and studied for years due to their excellent biological activities, including antifungal [ 52 , 53 ], insecticidal [ 54 ], acaricidal [ 54 ], antibacterial [ 55 ], and herbicidal activities [ 56 ]. Heterocyclic thioether compounds also possess high antifungal activities [ 57 ], and the thioether-bound 1,3,4-thiadiazole scaffold is an important pharmacophore [ 58 ].…”
