Designing a novel polythioether/multiwall carbon nanotube nanocomposites: A complete overview of mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties

Abstract: Polythioether is an elastomer with proper thermal resistance and elongation at break, which can be used in various high-temperature and high-pressure sealing applications. This research is aimed to determine the suitable thiol/vinyl ratio and the branching agent content to synthesize a novel polythioether and the polythioether/ multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composite using two monomers, including dimercapto dioxaoctane (DMDO) and triethylene glycol divinylether. For each synthesis process, the gel permeati… Show more

“…The reason for this can be the accumulation of nanoparticles on this surface, which prevents the penetration of the resin into these areas reducing the degree of cross linking. Also growing the number of nanoparticles can increase the viscosity of the epoxy adhesive and decrease its wetting ability 50–52 …”

[50][51][52] 3.4 | Morphological evaluation of multiphase epoxy composites (fractography of epoxy adhesives) Specimens with 0.5%, 1% and 2% w c-MWCNTs were taken into account for fracture analyses (Figure 7). The state of bonding between faces of the components of the adhesives is demonstrated by the surface of the samples supplied from the fracture surfaces.…”
