Designing an Adaptive Bandwidth Management for Higher Education Institutions

Abstract: Purpose-This study proposes an adaptive bandwidth management system which can be explicitly used by educational institutions. The primary goal of the system is to increase the bandwidth of the users who access more on educational websites. Through this proposed bandwidth management, the users of the campus networks is encouraged to utilize the internet for educational purposes. Method-The weblog from a university's pfSense proxy server was utilized and undergo Web Usage Mining (WUM) to determine the number of … Show more

“…Users are empowered to lay down their own rules and regulations of routing and transmitting networks, which provides flexible communication [46]. SDN plays a vital role in fog computing by competently managing diverse fog networks as well as offering solutions to reoccurring challenges [47]. These challenges include uneven connectivity and increased loss in packet data [48].…”

“…In recent years, organizations, particularly HEIs, have shown the enormous migration of IT applications and services to the cloud. The main concern of decision-makers in HEIs when migrating to the cloud is the QoS aspects, whereas these aspects include for instance availability, reliability, performance [6,20], IT infrastructure [24], cost [25], human capital [26], and service provider [11]. HEIs needs to identify QoS variables from different aspects for instance regulation, cost reduction, and trustworthy [27,28], while another researcher has been identifying other factors such as performance and environments [29,30], ICT infrastructure, user satisfaction, clients' needs security, and reliability [24].…”

Many researchers start investigate QoS in different aspects such as [31] study QoS from perspective of SLA contract management, [32] also explore QoS from allocating optimal resources, and [33] study QoS from cloud provider aspect to how can provider collaborate consistently to procure more assets in peak time to satisfy their QoS targets.…”

“…Hence, there is a need to build a model that can predict data usage for real-world traffic in the campus network. This will help not only in planning and upgrading campus network resources but also improve the overall performance of the network in terms of bandwidth consumption [20][21][22][23]. “…The use of statistical techniques was employed to quantify the concurrent number of traffic of fixed access networks with a specific target to residential areas only. [18][19][20][21] explicitly developed an adaptive bandwidth management system for higher education institutions with a view to increasing the bandwidth of the users who access more educational websites. The theory of their design was based on the work of the authors in [24] that studied the utilization of bandwidth in the face of increased internet traffic in the era of 'bring your own device'(BYOD) and increased digital content.…”
