In order to provide better services to elderly people, home healthcare monitoring systems have been increasingly deployed. Typically, these systems are based on wireless sensor nodes, and should utilize very low energy during their lifetimes, as they are powered by scavengers. In this article, we present an ultra-low power processing system for a wireless sensor node for very low duty cycle applications. In the CoolBio system-on-chip, we utilized several power reduction techniques at both the architecture level and the circuit level. These techniques include feature extraction, voltage and frequency scaling, clock and power gating and a redesign of key standard cells. In the design of the ultra-low power processing system, we paid special attention to the memory subsystem, as it is one of the most power-consuming modules in a design. We also designed a clock manager in order to reduce the power consumed by clocking, and a power manager that is able to power-off unutilized modules. The proposed wireless sensor node processing system consumes 36.4μW at 100MHz and 1.2V supply voltage, for a heartbeat-detection algorithm with a 0.01% duty cycle.

This paper presents the design and implementation of an electronic car sticker (e-sticker) using a proprietary RFID protocol. The system is a wireless data transmission system and consists of a monitoring module (reader) and many data acquisition modules (tags). In order to extend the battery life, the hardware and software components in both reader and tag modules are specifically designed to consume minimal power/energy. The proposed e-sticker can replace many windshield stickers such as registration, inspection and parking stickers on vehicles and can be monitored by patrol officers, inspection stations and authorized offices.

Bir telsiz duyarga ağında (TDA) hedeflenen uygulamanın başarı ile gerçekleştirilmesinin yanı sıra, duyarga başına harcanan toplam enerji gibi sistem kaynaklarının etkili kullanılması gerekmektedir. İncelenen sahada farklı uygulamalar için çok sayıda duyargaya ihtiyaç duyulabileceğinden, tüm sistemin maliyet etkin olabilmesi için her bir duyarganın da düşük masrafla üretilmesi de önemlidir. Bu makalede, öncelikle özel yapılmış, az enerji tüketen ve maliyeti düşük olan, MSP430G2553 mikroişlemcisi ve nRf24l01+ haberleşme ünitesi tabanlı bir duyarganın geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Sonrasında geliştirilen bu duyargalar kullanılarak sade bir TDA sınama ortamı oluşturulmuş ve ışık kaynağının konum tespiti çalışması yapılmıştır. In a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), system resources, such as the total node energy, need to be utilized effectively while executing the task of interest. Since a number of sensor nodes may be needed in various type of applications, it is also important to develop each sensor node in a cost effective manner. The purpose of this paper is to develop a custom made, low power, cost-effective wireless sensor node based on a MSP430G2553 microprocessor and nRf24l01+ wireless transceiver module. Then, using these nodes, we form a simple WSN testbed, and locate the position of a light emitting source.
