Desublimation for Purification and Transporting UF6: Process Description and Modeling

Abstract: This review presents an analytical overview of the different types of condensers called desublimators for purifying uranium hexafluoride from raw gas mixtures in the sublimation plant. Their advantages and disadvantages are shown. The specificity of the UF 6 desublimation process required in the transport containers heading to enrichment or separation plants is reflected. The most effective versions of UF 6 desublimation implementations, which can be used in solving complex modernization of UF 6 sublimation at… Show more

“…However, overexposure causes fluorosis [12] and high levels in utero can impede children's cognitive development [13]. In military operations, the detection of fluoride could be quite useful in the uranium enrichment process for nuclear power and weaponry development [14,15]. In chemical warfare, quick measurement of fluoride levels can expedite tracking of harmful phosphorofluoridate nerve agents such as sarin that hydrolyze to release the anion upon contact with the atmosphere [16,17].…”

“…The smallest and most extensively reported MX 6 complexes would be MF 6 . This complex garners attention not only in introductory chemistry texts but also due to its environmental impact of SF 6 [6,7], notable oxidation properties when M is a third-row transition metal [8][9][10]) and UF 6 in nuclear fuel reprocessing [11,12]. A comprehensive overview of the history and physical and chemical properties of MF 6 is provided in ref 13. Traditional ligand field theory, developed for light elements, does not adequately capture the intricate electronic behaviors exhibited by heavy transition metals.…”

“…This work is devoted to mathematical modeling of the process of desublimation of gaseous HFS into vertical transport containers. The existing mathematical models of the HPS desublimation process [1][2][3] are, as a rule, stationary or quasistationary. Their common disadvantages are the Original Research Article lack of consideration of heat transfer by convection and friction of the gaseous HFS against the desublimate layer during its movement along the heat exchange walls; desublimation on the end elliptical walls of heat exchange tanks [4].…”
