Detecting Blastocyst Components by Artificial Intelligence for Human Embryological Analysis to Improve Success Rate of In Vitro Fertilization

Abstract: Morphological attributes of human blastocyst components and their characteristics are highly correlated with the success rate of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Blastocyst component analysis aims to choose the most viable embryos to improve the success rate of IVF. The embryologist evaluates blastocyst viability by manual microscopic assessment of its components, such as zona pellucida (ZP), trophectoderm (TE), blastocoel (BL), and inner cell mass (ICM). With the success of deep learning in the medical diagnosis… Show more

“…These images were captured for different patients between 2012 and 2016 using an Olympus IX71 (Olympus Corp., Tokyo, Japan) inverted microscope and Research Instrument Cronus 4 software (Research Instruments, Falmouth, England) at the Pacific Center for Reproduction Canada. In addition, to realize a fair comparison with the state-of-the-art learning-based method on the same dataset, the train-test split method mentioned in [ 21 , 22 ] was enforced. Out of a total of 235 images, 200 (85%) and 35 (15%) were used for training and testing, respectively.…”

“…Moreover, it has been pointed out that the AI was more probably to result from misinterpretations in patients with coexisting polypoid tumors (or) benign leiomyomas [29]. With the individual variations of cancer patients and the multidrug conflict development, numerous patients with gynecological cancer have poor drug sensitivity follow-on unacceptable clinical treatment [32].…”

“…In recent years, artificial intelligence has made significant contributions to automating manual processes (Arsalan et al, 2022c;Haider et al, 2022a;Mahmood et al, 2022b). In particular, the combination of deep learning with computer vision has enabled complex problems to be solved using multimedia-based learning (Owais et al, 2021;Sultan et al, 2021;Arsalan et al, 2022a). Moreover, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) supported by machine vision have been used in automated marine observation.…”
