Detection comparisons between LWIR and MWIR polarimetric sensors

Abstract: Polarimetry sensor development has been in work for some time to determine the best use of polarimetry to differentiate between manmade objects and objects made by nature. Both MWIR and LWIR Focal Plane Arrays (FPAs) have been built at Raytheon Vision Systems each with exceedingly higher extinction ratios. This paper compares field imagery between MWIR and LWIR micro-grid polarimetric sensors independently and during simultaneous image collects.LWIR polarimetry has the largest polarimetric signal level and an … Show more

“…A DOFP MPA is based on periodically distributed superpixels, wherein a superpixel is generally composed of quad pixelated nano wire gratings with orientations of 0°, 45°, 90°, and 135°. Up to now, there are two main approaches to implement MPA-FPA integration, directly fabricating MPA on the FPA [11,12], or gluing an FPA with a MPA fabricated on a discrete substrate [13]. For the former one, there could be limitations during wire grating fabrications in terms of process compatibilities, especially for cryogenic devices like HgCdTe FPAs.…”
