Detection of SO2 derivatives using a new chalco-coumarin derivative in cationic micellar media: application to real samples

Abstract: A new probe ChC16 was synthesized and studied as a turn-on fluorescent probe, based on a Michael addition mechanism for sensing SO2 derivatives, which is favored in the presence of cationic micellar media such as cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB).

“…40 Later the same group reported a new chalcocoumarin derivative with an improved LOD of 0.24 mM. 41 These reports encouraged us to develop a colorimetric probe that shows a rapid, highly selective, and sensitive sensing process for HSO 3 − /SO 3 2− in an aqueous solution under mild conditions. Even though the NLO properties and medicinal properties of the developed probe have been explored by many groups, to the best of our knowledge, the sensing property of the probe is explored for the rst time.…”

“…9 As per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the US, the SO 3 2− concentration in food and beverages should not exceed 10 ppm. 3,10,11 All this suggests that a highly sensitive detection mechanism for in vitro and in vivo SO 3 2− /HSO 3 − is required to regulate the use of SO 3 2− and HSO 3 − ions and also to understand their biological activity, which is crucial for clinical diagnoses of various diseases.…”
