Determining consumer's carbon emission obligation through virtual emission tracing in power systems

Abstract: Although a recent report by the U.S. Energy Information Administration indicates that CO 2 emissions from power generation have now fallen below emissions from the transportation sector, electricity use remains a significant part of human's environmental footprint since fossil fuels are the major energy resource for electricity generation worldwide. This explains the continual effort by policy makers to develop a remedy to mitigate carbon emissions. It is then critically important to properly account for the e… Show more

“…At present, the goals of traditional energy transformation are often low-carbon and efficient, and to achieve low-carbon transformation, it is necessary to fully observe and track the carbon footprint or carbon flow throughout the entire energy process. Rouholamini M et al proposed a virtual carbon emission tracking method that achieves accurate tracking of carbon flow [5]. Zhang H et al proposed a carbon flow tracking method based on an integrated carbon hub, which can effectively calculate carbon emissions and track carbon flow [6].…”

“…There are basically two approaches for addressing responsibility for CO 2 emissions on the recent literature. One approach is about the emission producer (generator) and the second approach is about the consumer of the generated power (both are responsible for the emissions) 1,2 . One of the studies about the first approach was conducted in three islands of Taiwan (Penghu, Kinmen, and Green islands).…”
