Determining factors for the adoption of cloud computing in developing countries

Abstract: Purpose The paper aims to examine the constructs laid down by the information technology (IT) adoption theories to the cloud computing phenomena in conjunction with academic libraries of India to determine the factors responsible for the adoption of cloud computing. Design/methodology/approach Keeping the objectives into consideration, descriptive survey and constructive research method were used in the study. Library professionals engaged in the selected 28 central universities of India were chosen to parti… Show more

“…trust in the cloud system[29] [33] [46] [47].Cultural resistance: the results do not entirely indicate cultural resistance, but rather a rejection of some cloud services as they were deemed inappropriate by students (students A-M). Students A, C, E and G-U agreed that the Gmail system was a redundant and pointless system as they could use their personal emails, which were as effective.Student A indicated: "I do not see the point of using a free cloud emailing service I am already using for my personal account.…”

“…Greater availability/reliability: CC provides high-performance and scalable capabilities on-demand, while sustaining greater capital and operational expen-diture, and institutions that install applications on high-performance CC platforms are more than likely to achieve enhanced levels of business resiliency and continuity [29] [33] [35].…”

“…Factors hindering acceptance of using cloud services in university: a case study Yuvaraj 2016Determining factors for the adoption of cloud computing in developing countries: A case study of Indian academic libraries Table 2 presents the main issues deduced from the SLR. From the synthesis of evidence, it was deduced that 10 of the 20 studies for inclusion explicitly explored the benefits and challenges of CC adoption in education (Al-Badi et al, 2017;Alharthi et al, 2015;Kihara & Gichoya, 2014;Mokhtar et al, 2014;Mouyabi, 2015;Sultan, 2010;Surya & Surendro, 2014;Tantatsanawong et al, 2011;Wu et al, 2013;Yuvaraj, 2016). Generally, these studies have demonstrated a growing interest from Universities and their students to migrate to the cloud.…”

“…In Ghana, as in other developing countries, cloud computing and mobile applications and policies are being utilised in the health care sector to mitigate the pressure on clinical facilities and personnel [14,15]. With the promising potential of cloud computing in developing economies, studies [16][17][18][19] have been done to help shape cloud adoption but the appropriateness of a hybrid cloud architecture to meet specific business requirements have received little attention. In the healthcare industry, specific network requirements of availability [12,20,21], economic archive storage capacity [20,22], mobile device accessibility [12,13], regulatory compliance [20,23] and security [24] demand particular characteristics [25] in the hybrid cloud.…”
