Determining the Eutrophication State of Ecbatan Reservoir using Carlson Index

Abstract: Reservoirs are vital and necessary resources of potable water. Different sectors such as agriculture, industry and fishery are dependent on these resources which need high quality water. Water quality is mainly evaluated using different parameters such as pH, temperature and turbidity which are easily measured. Also there are some more complicated parameters such as eutrophication degree of a water body. This study was accomplished to investigate the trophic state of Ecbatan reservoir in dry and wet seasons. W… Show more

“…Since the raw waters of this reservoir have always been cloudy by the very high clay content, the Secchi disk depth has been omitted in calculation of the TSI indices of this reservoir. Therefore, the values of this index were calculated using only the Chl-a (µg / L) and TP (µg / L) concentrations according to method described in Ghashghaie et al (2018). The overall TSI (varies between 1 and 100) is therefore the average of TSI (Chl-a) and TSI (TP).…”

“…To determine evaluate the eutrophication state of Foum-Gleita reservoir, the Trophic State Index (TSI) method of Carlson (1977) was used. The TSI index value is calculated using only two quality parameters such as Chl-a (mg L À1 ) and TP (mg L À1 ) following the method described in Ghashghaie et al (2018). However, the depth of the Secchi disk was not used in the calculation of this index because the waters of this reservoir are always cloudy by the presence of a very high rate of clay.…”
