Developing Situations of Tea Plucking Machine

Abstract: To acquire the developing trend and ways of mechanization of tea plucking, with analyzing the developing backgrounds and situations of tea plucking machine both at home and abroad, this paper obtains the conclusion that there are several countries that have conducted a lot of studies on tea plucking machine, such as Japan, England, France, India, Australia and Argentina. Among others, Japan goes ahead, where lots of researches have been conducted in the highest developing level. The article also analyses the r… Show more

“…Hence, human operated machines for tealeaf plucking have been introduced with different levels of automation depending on the tealeaf value, tealeaf fragility and ground conditions (Wijeratne, 2012). Some of these machines need to be held out over tea bushes for many hours during long working days (Han et al , 2014). The musculoskeletal strain of doing so could be reduced by introduction of exoskeletons with gravity-balancing arms.…”

“…Famous tea has high drinking value and economic benefits and is the pillar of the tea industry. At present, the picking of ordinary tea has been mechanized [3,4], whereas the picking of famous tea still relies on manual labor. With the increasing shortage of the tea picking labor force, the phenomenon of a "tea picker shortage" is becoming increasingly serious, thereby limiting the development of the tea industry [5,6].…”

“…To minimize pickers' toil and grab the best picking time, some tea-picking machines have been developed (Slaughter et al 2008). However, existing tea harvesting machine works mainly in mechanical shearing mode (Han et al 2014), which simply cut the top of the tea tree with no selectivity. As a result, old leaves are "lumped" together with tender and broken leaves during harvesting; the process degrades the overall tea quality, a primary cause resulting in failing to meet the increasing demand of high-quality tea (Krahe et al 2018).…”
