Development and Characterization of PA 450 and PA 3282 Epoxy Coatings as Anti-Corrosion Materials for Offshore Applications

Abstract: The optimization of two different types of hardeners, namely polyaminoamine adduct (Aradur 450 BD) and polyamidoamine adduct (Aradur 3282 BD), with diglycidyle ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) epoxy resin was carried out. Three different stoichiometries of PA 450 to the epoxy resin to fabricate E-0, E-1, and E-2 coating samples and the other three of PA 3282 to the epoxy resin to fabricate F-0, F-1, and F-2 coating samples were coated on mild steel panels. All coated samples were characterized by scanning electron… Show more

“…Epoxy resin YD011X75 in chemical structure has aromatic rings and bonds as −N = N −, −NH 2 , −OH, = CO, −CH 3 , ≡C-O-C≡. Hardener Domide G5022 as polyamide contains groups −OH, −NH 2 , −N = N −, = CO. 47-48 The cured epoxy resins contain many characteristic organic functional groups such as aromatic rings, hydroxyl (-OH) … Absorption peaks at 3433.90, 2939.3, 2853.23, 1609.36, 1510.38, 1462.02, 1297.49, 1248.46, 1183.53, 1038.17, 1012.40, 829.56, and 574.55 cm −1 characterize functional groups of epoxy resins and curing agents. The absorption peaks at 1609.36 cm −1 , 1510.38 cm −1 as well as peaks at 1000–1400 cm −1 are characteristic of aromatic rings.…”

The peak at 3433.9 cm −1 is mainly due to the elongation of hydroxyl groups (-OH) and may form due to the cured epoxy resin.…”

“…EIS measurements have been widely exhibited to report the corrosion and corrosion protection of metals and alloys in various corrosive solutions [42][43][44]. Here, the Nyquist plots were obtained for (1) low-carbon steel (LCS), (2) LCS coated with Sn-4% Zn, (3) LCS coated with Sn-Zn + 0.25 Al 2 O 3 , (4) LCS coated with Sn-Zn + 0.25% NiO, and (5) LCS coated with Sn-4%Zn + 0.25% NiO + 0.25% Al 2 O 3 .…”
