Development and Validation of a UV-Spectrophotometric Method for Determination of Flucloxacillin Sodium in Capsules

Abstract: Flucloxacillin (FLU) is a semi-synthetic penicillin active against many gram-positive bacteria such as streptococci and penicilinase-producing staphylococci, including methicillin-susceptible S. aureus. A simple, rapid, reproducible and cost-effective UV-spectrophotometric analytical method was validated to assay flucloxacillin sodium (FLU) in capsules. Measurements were taken at 274 nm using ultra-purified water as the solvent. This new method was validated in accordance with ICH requirements, which include l… Show more

“…[61] Spectrophotometry in the UV region is an instrumental method widely used for the quantification of drugs, since it is considered simple, fast, economical, and reproducible. [62][63][64][65] However, it is a non-selective method and is not suitable for the detection of degradation products and impurities. [66] Spectrophotometric methods are also found in literature for other fluoroquinolones, such as ciprofloxacin, [67] norfloxacin, [68,69] orbifloxacin, [70] lomefloxacin, [71] gatifloxacin, [72] and sparfloxacin.…”

“…In addition, they can be developed without the use of organic solvents, which makes this technique more environmentalfriendly (Moreno, Salgado, 2009; Bonfílio, Araújo, Salgado, 2011;Cazedey, Salgado, 2012;Fiorentino, Salgado, 2012;Silva, Almeida, Salgado, 2012;Pedroso, Salgado, 2013;Cazedey, Salgado, 2014;Chierentin, Salgado, 2014;Corrêa, Serra, Salgado, 2014). To our knowledge, there are no studies in the literature that used spectrophotometry to analyze daptomycin.…”

“…1), is an antiseptic drug with a biguanidic structure active against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Several methods, recently reviewed, 13 have been proposed for chlorhexidine determination in pharmaceuticals and biological samples. These methods include chromatography, [14][15][16][17] uorimetry, 18 UV/Vis spectrophotometry 19 and capillary electrophoresis.…”
