“…Over the 2.8 million doses of trypanocides are used annually in Burkina Faso (MRA, 2006) of which only 23% are officially imported. Recent studies on the quality of the trypanocides DA and ISM sold in sub-Saharan Africa, showed that a great majority of these products do not respect the standards established by the original producers (Schad et al, 2008;Tettey et al, 2002) The fact that animals from the control herds were followed up every two weeks and treated with DA when positive obviously decreased the difference between ISM-treated and nontreated cattle. In uncontrolled field conditions, the beneficial effects of treating with ISM would thus be even more apparent.…”

“…HPLC methods for the separation and quantification of M&B4180A and its related substances (M&B4250, M&B38897 and M&B4596) and homidium have previously been published [14,16,17]. The present paper describes the first in-depth investigation into the chromatographic behaviour of these interesting quaternary ammonium salts with respect to their retention characteristics.…”

“…Another part of the study was the optimisation of a published method [16] for the measurement of ISM, in terms of selectivity, sensitivity and efficiency. In conjunction with mass spectrometry, this could enable the trace analysis of the drug as required in bioanalytical investigations of M&B4180A and related substances.…”

“…Then, spectra were separated into classes: class1 was spectra originating from authentic batches and class 2 was spectra from suspect samples taken from the French market. The 5 imitated batches were dispatched in 5 different classes (3)(4)(5)(6)(7). Then classes separation was appreciated from the PCA score plot depicted in Fig.…”

“…The fight against this public health problem is considered seriously by the authorities but it has been difficult to find good tools for discriminating counterfeits, which may ressemble both branded and generic products. Many analytical methods have been described for counterfeit drug detection, such as High Performance Liquid Chromatography with UV detection (HPLC-UV) [6][7][8], and mass spectrometry detection (HPLC-MS) [7,8], 1 H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) [9], Raman spectroscopy [9,10], X-ray powder diffraction [11], refractometry and colorimetry [12]. Recently, Near InfraRed Spectroscopy (NIRS) has also been introduced in this domain for counterfeits [13][14][15] and/or imitations [3,[16][17][18] investigations.…”
