Development of a capillary electrophoretic method for the analysis of low‐molecular‐weight amines from metal working fluid aerosols and ambient air

Abstract: A method for the determination of low-molecular-weight amines from indoor and ambient air was developed using a concentration device followed by CE coupled with indirect spectrophotometric and mass spectrometric detection that enables a reliable, rapid-response and easy-to-operate method. In indirect detection method, the selected amines were separated from interfering metal ions and amino alcohols present in the samples with an imidazole-based buffer with ethanol and EDTA as modifier. By replacing imidazole w… Show more

“…Their residence lifetime in the environment is short due to their highly reactive nature so they are easily oxidised under atmospheric conditions and highly carcinogenic N-nitrosamines can be formed from secondary amines. Fekete et al [21] have developed a method for the determination of these amines with m/z values higher than 50 in indoor and ambient air by CE coupled with indirect UV and MS detection. The overall method was found to be robust, be reliable, have a rapid response and be relatively easy to operate.…”

“…The applications of CE for the analysis of aliphatic and aromatic amines of environmental concern were the subject of several recent studies [37,44,55]. Fekete et al [55] developed a method for the determination of low-molecular weight amines in indoor and ambient air samples, using a concentration device followed by CE coupled to indirect UV and MS detection.…”

“…Fekete et al [55] developed a method for the determination of low-molecular weight amines in indoor and ambient air samples, using a concentration device followed by CE coupled to indirect UV and MS detection. A novel monolithic polymer material was used for the sampling of short-chained amines from the gaseous phase.…”
