Development of a Framework for Implementation of World-class Maintenance Systems Using Interpretive Structural Modeling Approach

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to develop a framework for the implementation of World-class Maintenance Systems (WMS) with the help of Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) methodology. In our earlier work, the framework for WMS was proposed, which explained what constitutes WMS. As a follow up paper, an attempt has been made to present a detailed description about how an organization can implement WMS. To accomplish the same, a standard template is provided for describing the implementation of each and every e… Show more

“…The reported work contributes in the formation of a framework for modelling structural association amongst the barriers by employing a qualitative methodology for identifying the contextual inter‐relationship amongst various barriers, which collectively restrict the SDO vendors from renewing or upgrading their relationships with their overseas clients. Like other researchers, in the published literature on the association between qualitative barriers, the present study tries to fill some of the research gaps and propose a conceptual framework. This work will not only benefit the outsourcing stakeholders in understanding the indirect effects of barriers but at the same time will help them to design solutions to mitigate and control the effects of barriers that emasculate the successful contract renewal or SOP formation for the future ventures.…”

“…Valmohammadi and Dashti associate barriers to E‐commerce implementation, Mishra et al identify association between various practices in maintenance systems, Shen et al interrelate factors of emission trading system implementation, Al‐Muftah et al, find interrelation amongst various factors in e‐diplomacy implementation, and Gan et al find structure association amongst barriers to construction site implementation using the ISM approach. A summarised view of the literature on ISM is presented in Table .…”

“…In contrast, reverse logistic analysis on various challenges was carried out by Wu et al 59 using ISM. Challenges faced by Ecommerce implementation were identified by Ravi and Shankar 60 ; a relation among different ways and tricks was pointed out by Chandramowli et al, 61 in maintenance systems, challenges of emission trading system implementation were associated by Valmohammadi and Dashti, 62 relationship among different challenges in ediplomacy execution was detected by Mishra et al, 63 and structural relationship among challenges for constructing site implementation was detected by Shen et al, 64 applying the ISM approach. Table 1 presents a summary of ISM literature.…”

“…Among the maintenance programs, World Class Maintenance (WCM) can be mentioned which, according to Yamashina (2000), aims to achieve world class maintenance through process leadership, involving good practices from others maintenance programs such as Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). Mishra et al (2015) commented that WCM proposes the promotion of culture changes in relation to reactive maintenance methods and the optimization of maintenance operations through improvements in the process in order to achieve zero failures.…”
