Development of a rule-based system to enhance the data consistency and usability of COBie datasheets☆

Abstract: Building information modeling (BIM) for facilities management (FM) has been gaining considerable attention. Construction operations building information exchange (COBie) datasheets are conceptualized as an electronic format of data for FM handover extracted from the BIM model and supplemented with information from other sources. To build an efficient COBie datasheet, it is advocated to build and verify data at all stages of design and construction, commonly known as data drops. Nevertheless, data consistency v… Show more

“…Though COBie is not designed to store such changes inside, it is imperative to understand how data changes in the COBie sheet. The value of tracking changes in the COBie datasheet is addressed in our previous published works (Kumar and Teo, 2020a;Kumar and Teo, 2021). This study highlighted that identifying historical changes inside the COBie datasheet can help the project team track their project progress effectively.…”

“…Finally, the recycling potential calculator module showcases the COBie datasheet as a potential data source for urban mining calculations at a more accurate level. The details of some of the modules can be found in our earlier publications (Kumar and Teo, 2019a, 2020b, 2020aKumar and Teo, 2021), while manuscripts on some are still under review and preparation at the time of submission of this article. Henceforth, this paper presents the development methodology and prototype of the "visualizer" module of the CDMS only and presents information only relevant to this development.…”

“…The methodology applied for this research work was the cascade methodology, which is defined or characterized by the sequential development of processes through the requirements established for the project [16], this type of methodology is more suitable for projects that need a development without time limits based only on meeting the requirements in short deadlines, allowing flowcharts, coding, implementation, debugging and verification [17], as shown in Figure 1, which shows the processes covered by the cascade methodology [18].…”

“…Moreover, it is conceptualized to take the output from the COBie Evaluator module to visualize changes inside the graph representation. The visualizer development has been discussed in detail in our previously published article [28].…”
