Development of a Scientifically Valid Coordinated Care Path

Abstract: Of 161 items on the care path, 10 were not validated. The experts validated the instrument as a whole. Of the 161 items, 151 were validated. This is an instrument validation rate of 0.94. No additional changes or modifications to the path were suggested by the experts. The transdisciplinary team addressed the nonvalidated items. This method can be used to develop other coordinated paths for other diagnostic groups.

“…In this case of CPM applied in an acute‐care psychiatric unit, it was difficult for medical staffs to assess psychiatric symptoms at a general view, which seems to come from the hardness to generalize each variable patient and the inactive evaluation of psychiatric symptoms and insight into the diseases. A previous research showed that assessment scales to evaluate psychiatric symptoms were ineffective (Anders et al 1997), and the scale we adopted had some items to be evaluated by doctors along with nurses. Therefore, in the second test, the items to be evaluated by nurses were separated from those by doctors.…”

“…The early stages of care pathway development offer an opportunity to review the current service in terms of both service user and practitioner experiences. Anders et al . (1997) suggest they can promote interdisciplinary dialogue by providing a forum for all the professions involved in care to come together to discuss their role and input.…”
