Development of a Simple and Cheap Conductive Graphite Ink

Abstract: Several efforts were made to fabricate a graphite ink easy to prepare, cheap, and with good conductivity. The proposed ink composition was graphite and nail polish (50:50%), using acetone as an organic solvent. The materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electrochemidal impedance spectroscopy, and electrochemical measurements. The results confirmed the conductive nature of graphite and the insulator nature of nail polish. Although nail polish is an… Show more

“…To develop conductive inks, a compound with conductive characteristics must be dispersed in a polymeric medium that will be responsible for the adhesion to the substrate [ 4 , 14 ]. Polymeric compounds, such as shellac and nail polish, have been properly employed for this purpose [ 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ]. Nail polish [ 11 ] is a polymer that has proved to be excellent for the development of conductive inks, mainly because it is already developed to come into contact with nails without causing harm to human health.…”

“…Figure 15 a,b illustrate the process of fabricating the contact area. Initially, polyvinyl alcohol was dip-coated and dried, followed by a layer of nail polish, which served as an insulator [ 56 , 57 , 58 ]. A glass plate with a hole of φ100 μm was then pressed onto the coated Au hemisphere, creating a convex top area on the ball.…”
