Development of Experimental Techniques for Parameterization of Multi-scale Lithium-ion Battery Models

Abstract: Presented here, is an extensive 35 parameter experimental data set of a cylindrical 21700 commercial cell (LGM50), for an electrochemical pseudo-two-dimensional (P2D) model. The experimental methodologies for tear-down and subsequent chemical, physical, electrochemical kinetics and thermodynamic analysis, and their accuracy and validity are discussed. Chemical analysis of the LGM50 cell shows that it is comprised of a NMC 811 positive electrode and bi-component Graphite-SiOx negative electrode. The thermodynam… Show more

“…Hence the finite element discretisation retains its second order convergence rate despite the additional approximations. The integrals on the right-hand side of equations (25)- (26) have integrands that depend solely upon the basis functions and their derivatives, and so can be computed exactly (for details see Appendix A). This observation leaves us in a position to write down the DAE system arising from the spatial discretisation of the macroscopic PDEs (1)-(5) of the Doyle-Fuller-Newman model.…”
