Development of Flat Warts on the Cheeks after BioNTech-Pfizer BNT162b2 Vaccine: Is There a Correlation?

Abstract: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has affected health systems across the globe, making the use of vaccines more urgent and topical than ever. Since the first months after the introduction of vaccinations, several reactions, both local and systemic, have been reported although they were mostly very mild and only rarely harbingers of more serious complications. We present a case of multiple flat warts onset over the cheeks in a patient after the second dose of mRNA BioNTech-Pfizer BNT162b2 vaccine, and we discuss the poss… Show more

“…Furthermore, our findings also suggest that different types of vaccinations exhibit distinct activation patterns at various sites, which will need to be studied in the future. Even in this case, the warts on the cheek were developed with positive for spike IgG and negative for nucleocapsid IgG after mRNA-based vaccination, suggesting that the mRNA-LNP triggers an autoimmune response [18] Therefore, the COVID-19 vaccines may not be fatal, but vaccinated people with a predisposition may be more susceptible to the occurrence of AEs. Furthermore, our study indicates that it is essential to consider potential side effects that persist beyond three months.…”

“…Much of the current literature on the side effects occurring after the COVID-19 vaccination focused on serious AEs such as cardiovascular complications. Consequently, the non-serious AEs have yet to be comprehensively elucidated [11,[14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. Therefore, this study aims to assess the non-serious AEs after COVID-19 vaccination from the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) database in Seoul, South Korea.…”

“…This might be a factor underlying an inadequate vaccine response, given that the immune systems of this population are more impaired. On the other hand, studies in this area have been performed involving patients with different vaccine schemes including heterologous vaccination, which is already known to be more immunogenic than the homologous scheme [20]. We consider that homogeneity in the severity of IEI as well as in vaccination schemes may help to avoid the presence of confusing factors.…”

“…Histopathology studies revealed a zone of acanthosis with hypergranulosis with a subtle, undulating surface change rather than the prominent finger-like papillomatosis of verruca vulgaris in this case. 138…”
