Development of MOX Gas Sensors Module for Indoor Air Contaminant Measurement

Abstract: This paper presents the development of gas sensor module consisting of metal oxide (MOX) gas sensors for indoor air contaminant measurement. The first phase of the studies involves the design of PCBs board for six different metal oxide (MOX) gas sensors particularly CCS803, MiCS5524, GM-402B, GM-502B, GM-702B and MiCS6814. Next, the main board consisting of temperature, humidity and another two MOX gas sensors (i.e TGS2600 and TGS2602) was developed for the acquisition of the sensors. A partially closed chambe… Show more

“…In addition, the characteristics and response of the MOX sensor are highly affected by the temperature of the metal oxide layer. The temperature range of the layer is said to lie between 200 • C and 500 • C [26][27][28] and is achieved using a built-in heater resistor. This temperature range is essential for stimulating the relevant chemical reaction and improving its selectivity and response rate [26].…”

“…Figure 3(b) shows the resistance value of R1 of 130 Ω in series with the heating resistance of the OX sensor to obtain the correct heating element temperature. When the circuit is given a single 5V power supply, the voltage generated on the heating element (VH) is 1.7 V. A single resistance value R6 of 56 kΩ (resistance load), which is connected with the internal resistance of the RS sensor (resistance when there is a gas target) [24]. Therefore, the OX sensor signal output path marked "NO2_VALUE" is connected to the 10-bit ADC microcontroller based on the voltage divider principle [25].…”

“…Due to the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) [1,2], there is an increasing demand for gas sensors used for indoor [3,4] or outdoor [5][6][7][8][9] air quality monitoring. Airborne dust particles typically carry a certain degree of charge or other attached substances.…”
