Development of reference intervals for serum alkaline phosphatase among adults in Southern China traced to the new IFCC reference measurement procedure

Abstract: RIs for serum ALP for Chinese Han individuals in between the ages of 18 and 79 years were determined and required partitioning due to the higher ALP values of females age 50-79 years.

“…Reference intervals for serum ALP in China were traced to the new IFCC reference procedure. 160 The results were higher than other populations. Hypercortisolism is frequently investigated because of the effects on bone health and body weight as discussed earlier in this review.…”

“…The introduction of enzyme reference measurement systems to provide traceable patient results have therefore been followed by the definition of traceable reference intervals to provide more congruent and effective information to clinicians. In particular, traceable reference intervals have been established for AST, ALT, γGT, LDH, CK, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and AMY first in Caucasian adults and afterwards in Asian individuals [17,18,[22][23][24][25][26]. Table 1 reports a synopsis of traceable reference intervals for enzymes obtained in European and Asian subjects.…”

“…Serum alkaline phosphatase in healthy children aged 0∼12 years from a hospital of Beijing in 2016 was reported at 112 ∼ 342 IU/L (Zhang et al, 2016). The reference interval of direct bilirubin (DBiL) and indirect bilirubin (IBiL) in healthy Han nationality children aged from January to 14 years in Changchun city was referenced (Li et al, 2016), with DBiL at 0∼6.7 μmol/L and IBiL at 5.4∼12.2 μmol/L.…”

“…Healthy alkaline phosphatase (ALP) value of children refers to the reference interval of serum ALP in healthy children aged 0∼12 years old from a hospital in Beijing (2016) (Zhang et al, 2016). In this article, the mean ALP before treatment was 212.9 ± 56.8 u/L and 212.2 ± 48.3 u/L after treatment, all within the normal range, and there was no difference before and after treatment ( p > .05).…”
