Development of Safety Assessment Code for Decommissioning of Nuclear Facilities (DecDose)

Abstract: A safety assessment code, DecDose, for decommissioning of nuclear facilities has been developed, based on the experiences of the decommissioning project of Japan Power Demonstration Reactor (JPDR) at Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (now Japan Atomic Energy Agency). DecDose evaluates the annual exposure dose of the public and workers according to the progress of decommissioning of the plant, and also evaluates the public dose at accidental situations including fire and explosion. The public dose at norma… Show more

“…The plasma arc, abrasive water jet, and band saw are typical examples of static cutting methods. These mechanical methods are wellcontrolled in the cutting direction; however, the cutting speed is slow and secondary waste products, such as melted slug and cutting scrape, are produced [2]. However, the dynamic separation method for cutting by means of explosion is difficult to control [3] and has safety challenges.…”

“…In order to evaluate exposure doses to surrounding people at both normal and accidental situations, and dismantling workers at a normal situation during decommissioning stage of nuclear facilities from a regulatory point of view, the development of the safety assessment code for decommissioning of nuclear facilities (DecDose) was completed by improving models based on the prototype code (3) only for the public dose at the normal situation.…”
