The UAE’s thriving real estate market has resulted in a highly diversified built environment, attracting architects from around the world. However, this has also led to a misconception within the architectural practice and its regularization, particularly concerning acceptable professional qualifications. Therefore, this study aims to address these issues and provide a blueprint for policymakers and stakeholders. This study provided a comprehensive overview of architectural practice in the UAE by identifying the services offered by professionals in the built environment and categorizing them based on their qualifications and professional titles. The study adopts a classical research method, which includes a literature review, unstructured interviews, a statistical survey, and analysis. The study identifies 13 building designs and allied services commonly provided by professionals in the built environment in the UAE. The professionals providing these services are categorized based on their qualifications and professional titles, which include registered architects, architect engineers, architectural consultants, engineering consultants, and project managers. Furthermore, the study clarifies the definition of an acceptable qualification for a principal architect, which can be used as a reference by young professionals to understand the trends in architectural qualification and practice. The results of the study can also be used by policymakers and stakeholders to address the issues in professional practice and improve the quality of architectural services in the UAE.

Since housing electrical work is essential in the aspect of electricity use and electrical accidents, it is necessary to properly design, construct, and manage it to avoid quality problems. However, disputes are intensifying in Korea due to numerous quality problems after the house is handed over to the owner. Although related standards have been established and some studies have been conducted, there is a lack of discussion on housing electrical work because the housing quality problem is varied. In this study, the cases of quality problems that occurred in housing electrical works were investigated, while 52 quality control indices were presented and classified according to detailed work category, object, and problematic occurrences. In addition, the number of cases of quality problems for each quality management index and the repair cost ratio were used as a scale to understand the status of quality management. Finally, 11 quality indices were suggested as candidates of important indices which needed to be controlled to focus on the housing electrical work by comparing the above 52 indices. The comparison was made on which one was best suited to the Pareto principle, a quality management strategy, among the candidates for the critical index and the indices suggested by relevant standards and previous studies. The comparison results showed that the candidates of the essential indices suggested in this study conformed to the Pareto principle, while other indices hardly conformed to it. Therefore, if the quality control strategy of choice and concentration for housing electrical works is used, focusing on these vital index candidates can effectively assist in handling the occurrence of quality problems.

The current challenge is to provide automatic decision support in a smart home. A study of the top solutions of well-known smart homes has shown that existing solutions usually do not provide for fully automatic control in a smart home, but are focused either on automatic control in conjunction with manual control or user-controlled control. Therefore, the goal of this study is to support decision-making for fully automatic temperature control in a smart home. Human well-being and performance depend on the meteorological conditions of the environment in which a person is located. The most important condition for high performance, rest, and health is the creation and maintenance of an optimal home microclimate. One of the main parameters of the indoor microclimate is temperature. The room temperature control subsystem ensures the optimal temperature level and allows for individual adjustment for each family member. The developed rules for determining the optimal room temperature allow you to evaluate the existing temperature parameters for further automatic operation of the smart home temperature control subsystem in residential premises of various types. The purpose of the temperature control subsystem is to provide comfortable conditions in residential premises of various types in terms of their temperature regime. The developed decision-making method for temperature control in a smart home, which is the basis of the smart home temperature control subsystem, provides a comfortable and optimal (taking into account building and sanitary and hygienic standards) temperature in the corresponding living space. The results of the functioning of the smart home temperature control decision-making method have shown that the developed method provides for the recognition of situations (optimal temperature, low temperature, high temperature) and support for decision-making on the temperature regime in a certain type of residential space (turning on heating devices, turning on cooling devices, no action, etc.).
