Dexmedetomidine/Propofol interaction

Abstract

Mobitz II atrioventricular block associated with hypotension: case reportAn 85-year-old woman developed Mobitz II atrioventricular block associated with hypotension during concomitant administration of propofol and dexmedetomidine for sedation * .The woman, who had hypertension and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, was admitted to the ICU for acute respiratory distress syndrome in the setting of COVID-19. Mechanical ventilation was given. She received treatment with dexmedetomidine 0.6 µg/kg/hr and propofol 16 µg/kg/min for sedation [routes not stated]. On the same day, she developed Mobitz II atrioventricular block associated with hypotension. Systolic pressure was found to be in 60s.Propofol was discontinued. Consequently, atrioventricular block and hypotension were resolved. Eventually, the woman was extubated. She was transferred to the telemetry floor. No recurrence of atrioventricular block was noted.
