Diabetes-altered gene expression in rat skeletal muscle corrected by oral administration of vanadyl sulfate

Abstract: with vanadium, a representative of a class of antidiabetic compounds, alleviates diabetic hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia. Oral administration of vanadium compounds in animal models and humans does not cause clinical symptoms of hypoglycemia, a common problem for diabetic patients with insulin treatment. Gene expression, using Affymetrix arrays, was examined in muscle from streptozotocin-induced diabetic and normal rats in the presence or absence of oral vanadyl sulfate treatment. This treatment affected norm… Show more

“…It reflects that the antidiabetic treatment with coriander only may decrease the FBS level but still the required normal range was not achieved. Same study conducted [29] in 2011, showed some how the matched results [30] but the present study results are not in agreement with another medical cram [31] because it showed no effect of coriander on the FBS level.…”

“…The largest class of diabetes altered gene expression returned to normal levels by vanadyl sulfate treatment involved genes from major lipid biosynthetic pathways in gene expression studies using DNA microarrays (Willsky et al 2006). In the present study, we determined the concentrations of total cholesterol (TCHO) and triglyceride (TG) in serum.…”

“…Many studies suggested a close relationship between vanadium toxicity and ROS [9,[20][21][22]. Vanadium induced apoptosis of cells associated with elevated ROS levels and ROS-related signal transduction [23,24], while antioxidants, either as complex ligands [25] or co-administration [26,27], significantly reduced vanadium toxicity.…”
