Diagnostic Utility of p63 (Ab-1) and (Ab-4) Tumor Markers in the Squamous Cell Carcinomas of Head and Neck

Abstract: P63 is a gene product required in cell cycle regulation which plays vital roles in tumor differentiation. Aims of the present study were to assess the frequency, pattern, sensitivity and specificity of two p63 protein clones P63 4A4 and P63 4A4+Y4A3 in squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). Thirty cases of head and neck region SCC diagnosed on the basis of H&E staining were examined along with 60 cases of head and neck region biopsies other than squamous cell carcinoma, negative on H&E staining, were taken as contro… Show more

“…Overexpression of p53 in the margins of tumor could be a gross predictor of clinical outcome (Jalali et al, 2011). Another p63 gene is reported to play a role in the normal cellular and carcinogenetic proliferation P63 4A4+Y4A3 squamous cell carcinomas of HNC (Khan et al, 2012). Furthermore increasing oropharyngeal incidence has been associated with HPV (Saba et al, 2011).…”

“…The first remarkable difference was the morphology of colonies with an invasion prone aspect ( Fig 1D and 1G , Fig 3 ) that could initiate metastasis. Western blots subsequently revealed the expression of the tumour marker p63 [ 25 , 26 ] in SACR2 cells, similar to FaDu cells ( Fig 2 ).…”

“…PET/CT and BMB proved BMI in 35 (27%) patients. PET/CT detected BMI in 33 (94%) of these patients, while BMB detected in 14 (40%) patients (23). Sensitivity and specificity of PET/CT to detect BMI was 94% and 100%, respectively.…”

“…These findings were similar to the data published by Pakos et al (18). In a study by Anjum Bashir Khan et al (23), 130 patients diagnosed as having lymphoma were evaluated. PET/CT and BMB proved BMI in 35 (27%) patients.…”
