Diastema closure using direct bonding restorations combined with orthodontic treatment: a case report

Abstract: Closure of interdental spaces using proximal build-ups with resin composite is considered to be practical and conservative. However, a comprehensive approach combining two or more treatment modalities may be needed to improve esthetics. This case report describes the management of a patient with multiple diastemas, a peg-shaped lateral incisor and midline deviation in the maxillary anterior area. Direct resin bonding along with orthodontic movement of teeth allows space closure and midline correction, conseque… Show more

“…Even in some cases when it was not totally closed, the patient was satisfied with the result. However, in difficult cases for better aesthetic results, where the correction or management cannot be done by the composite restorative technique only, an interdisciplinary approach is often required [6,21].…”

“…10 Yapılan çalışmalara göre insanların yaklaşık %50'sinde her iki arkta da diastemalar olduğu ortaya konulmuştur. Tek bir arkta diastemaya sahip hastalarda ise bu sıklıkla maksillada ve daha çok da ön bölge dişlerinde gözlenmektedir.…”

“…When diastema closure is performed, the dental midline and esthetic proportion of the individual tooth must be considered alongside the occlusal relationships. 24 Porcelain laminate veneers, metal-ceramic restorations, all-ceramic crowns, and resin based composite systems are suitable methods to address all these objectives. Porcelain laminate veneers have a high abrasion resistance and color stability.…”
