Die Fortschritte der Radiokarbon-Methode 1952—1956

Abstract: Abstract. Show more

“…The record from "Cueva del Toll" is thus found to be in very good agreement with the outlines of the Würm glaciation, as they heve now emerged elsewhere (EMILIANI 1956, GROSS 1957a, 1957, and literature there cited). The glaciation is dichotomous, with a shorter and perhaps less intense Early Würm and a long Main Würm, separated by a very well-defined interstadial.…”

“…A second interpretation which might be suggested would be to correlate the steppe horizon h with the Eem, and the forest peak of i with the late Riss, but this appears rather improbable for several reasons. The Gött weig is well known to have been a relatively long episode with a marked climatic amelio ration very much farther to the north, and it is almost inconceivable that it would have had no effect on the sequence from g to d. The fauna seems also to agree better with this interpretation than with any other; the cave bear mass occurrence is in layer h, and it is known in other regions to be very common in the Göttweig (GROSS 1957 b).…”

“…The impact of hard water is not limited to bulk measurements, but also affects CSRA. Mischke and co-workers (2017) determined the hard water effect by dating algae 14 C. Modern algae had an F 14 C of 0.8914, thus a correction of the hard-water effect was necessary, which can cause an age shift of approximately 2000 years in submerged aquatic plants (Gross 1957). The impact of hard water on the radiocarbon dating of bulk sediment is possible, as the heterogeneous bulk sample may contain a proportion of algae.…”

“…Summary inGross, 1957; dates fromGodwin, 1957, Troels-Smith, 1953 (for last Littorina > Passage Grave), 1956,Levi-Tauber, 1955, Tauber, 1956, Munnich, 1957, Groschopf, 1957 A new, and at the time of writing this, unpublished Copenhagen date of 2,500+200, seems much more reasonable. (Oral communication from H.…”
