Acute and chronic cystitis may be the source of infection of contiguous tissues and through the lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes of the base of the bladder and in the walls of the ureters, infection of the pelvis and parenchyma of the kidneys and perirenal tissues may occur as shown by S. Sugimura (4) and Carl Franke (5). The kidney and its pelvis, however, is usually infected hematogenously with pyogenic bacteria, typhoid, colon and tubercle bacilli and other microorganisms.…”
