Dielectric and Piezoelectric Properties of the Morphotropic Phase Boundary Composition in the (0.8−x) Pb(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3−0.2PbZrO3xPbTiO3 Ternary System

Abstract: Morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) compositions separating rhombohedral and tetragonal phases in the (1ÀxÀy)Pb(Mg 1/3 Ta 2/3 )O 3 -yPbZrO 3 -xPbTiO 3 (PMT-PZ-PT100x) ternary solid solution system were characterized using X-ray diffraction and dielectric, piezoelectric properties. This work focused on compositions with a PZ content fixed at y 5 0.2, with an MPB composition found to be located at x 5 0.4. Piezoelectric coefficients and dielectric permittivity were found to be on the order of d 33 5 580 pC/ N and … Show more

“…All the PSn-PMN-PT samples were found to be pure perovskite. It was observed that with increasing PT content, the (200) peak gradually split, indicating a phase transformation from rhombohedral phase to tetragonal phase, 12 based on which, the compositions of PSn-PMN-PT with PT in the range of 0.43-0.45 are identified as MPB region.…”

“…In our previous work, (200) peak of (0.8-x)PMT-xPT-0.2PZ samples starts to split when x = 0.4 which is much broader than that of the pure rhombohedral phase [9]. The piezoelectric and dielectric properties at room temperature of the samples (Table 1) confirmed that x = 0.4 is the MPB of (0.8-x)PMT-xPT-0.2PZ solid solutions whose piezoelectric coefficient, k p and dielectric constant are highest (d 33 = 580pC/N, ε = 4050, kp = 57.2%).…”

“…In our previous work, (0.8-x)PMT-xPT-0.2PZ solid solution was investigated to find the MPB [9] and Pb(Ni 1/3 Ta 2/3 )O 3 -PZ-PT (PNT-PZ-PT) was observed to be a relaxor in room temperature with high dielectric permittivity. So in this work, enhanced dielectric permittivity was expected in Ni-doped PMT-PZ-PT system near MPB.…”

“…Moreover, the mechanical quality factor ( Q m ) can be remarkably improved by accepter doping, making it applicable in high‐power piezoelectric electronic devices. The Q m enhancement is closely attribute to the pinning of domain wall motions and the inhibition of polarization switching which were caused by defect dipoles …”
