Dietary taurine in practical diet for two sizes of snubnose silver pompano, Trachinotus blochii

Abstract: Teolost species, both in juvenile and larval stages, require taurine as an essential amino acid (Salze & Allen Davis, 2015). Physiological and metabolic functions in fish, such as anti-oxidation process, immunomodulation, growth and osmoregulation, necessitate taurine (Salze et al., 2018). Taurine is abundant in live or natural food used in the seed production of aquatic species and is considered a conditionally essential nutrient in feed for various cultured species (Takeuchi, 2014).Dietary taurine supplement… Show more

“…Tau is known to improve fish growth, feed conversion ratios and protein and energy retention, especially when dietary FM is replaced by alternative proteins (Gaylord et al, 2006; Lunger et al, 2007; Rossi Jr. & Davis, 2012). Dietary supplementation of Tau also has been reported to augment the performance of golden and silver pompano fed conventional diets and alternate protein‐based diets (Ma et al, 2021; Mamauag et al, 2021; Nguyen et al, 2020). Because dietary Tau levels exceeded the fish's requirement in the current trial, it is possible that bolstered fish performance resulted.…”
