“…The difference of EGFR mutation rate between females and males may be caused by higher smoking rate in males. In addition, lymph nodes involvement was reported with EGFR mutation in some studies (Shi et al, 2014;Zheng et al, 2014), P and T stages were also reported correlated with EGFR mutation (Tomita et al, 2014), while our studies indicated no association of EGFR mutation with pathological stage, lymph nodes and distant metastasis, consistent with other studies (Sahoo et al, 2011;Zhang et al, 2013;Tian et al, 2014;Zhao et al, 2014;Zheng et al, 2014), suggesting constant impact of EGFR mutation during the whole pathogenic process from the very beginning.…”

“…As the ethnic minorities have distinct life-styles, growing backgrounds, diets and living conditions compared with Han population, the genetic profiles may also differ. For example, Uyghur population, mainly living in North-west of China, had significantly lower EGFR mutation rate than Han population (12% vs. 55.1%) (143). Therefore, these experiences and treatment strategies cannot be directly generalized to other East Asians, namely Mongolians and North Koreans, and Chinese ethnic minorities, and further studies are still needed in these populations.…”

“…EGFR mutations predominantly occur in patients with the features of female sex, non-smoking, adenocarcinoma histology and East Asian ethnicity (Yatabe et al, 2007;Zhang et al, 2013;Usuda et al, 2014). EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), such as gefitinib, has been proved to be superior to cytotoxic chemotherapy in advanced lung cancer patients carrying the EGFR activating mutation, and EGFR mutation is a good predictor of clinical efficacy of TKIs (Maemondo et al, 2010;Fukuoka et al, 2011).…”
