“…Instead, relative to controls, VSG rats selectively reduced intake when offered a palatable HFD after consuming a caloric preload. Consistent with this, clinical evidence has indicated that VSG reduces preference and liking for high‐calorie foods (rich in fat and sugar) . Taken together, these results suggest that VSG selectively abrogates hedonic feeding in the absence of a caloric need.…”

“…Several studies have investigated differences in taste perception and food preferences between different forms of bariatric surgery, (e.g. RYGB, VSG, AGB), providing evidence for surgery-dependent effects [84,128,130,131]. Furthermore, mixed results on the effects of bariatric surgery on specific tastants and preferences have been reported in clinical populations [77,127,130,132].…”

“…Ernst et al (96) also studied a group of patients who reported a reduction in consumption of desserts such as chocolates, cakes, and cookies and an increase in intake of vegetables, poultry, and protein-rich foods such as fish and eggs. Primeaux et al (235) again used verbal report by deploying a Food Preference Questionnaire and VAS comparing VSG to RYGB and found that VSG decreased the hedonic rating of most macronutrient profiles as opposed to RYGB, after which changes were more selective. Caution is needed in assessing these results because follow-up was restricted to 1-3 mo and the sample size was small.…”
