Différenciation morphologique de deux espèces sympatriques :Phlebotomus perniciosusNewstead 1911 etPhlebotomus longicuspisNitzulescu 1930 (Diptera : Psychodidae)

Abstract: Morphological distinction between two sympatric species: Phlebotomus perniciosus and Phlebotomus longicuspis (Diptera: Psychodidae). In this article we present a new approach for the distinction of two sympatric species of Phlebotomus vectors of visceral leishmaniasis due to Leishmania infantum in Algeria. In countries around the Mediterranean Sea, Phlebotomus perniciosus Newstead 1911 revealed the existence of atypic morphes which cause erroneous identifi cations wihich consequently can lead to confusions wit… Show more

“…All male P. perniciosus collected showed atypical forms of copulatory valves. This atypical form of P. perniciosus (PNA) has been reported in northern (Pesson et al as well as in southern Morocco (Boussaa et al It was identified also in Tunisia (Ghrab et al Boudabous et al and probably in Algeria (Berchi et al Eight collected species ( S. dreyfussi, P. alexandri, P. bergeroti, S. christophersi, S. africana, P. chabaudi, P. chadlii , and P. kazeruni ) are not abundant (less than 2%) in our study area and we could not determine their distribution. For the abundant species ( S. minuta, S. fallax, P. perniciosus, P. papatasi, P. sergenti, P. longicuspis , and P. ariasi ), the geographical distribution was presented according to some environmental variables (Figure ).…”

“…The captured sand flies were stored in 70% alcohol. Male and female specimens were separated and morphologically identified using taxonomic keys (Rioux and Golvan, 1969;Rioux et al, 1978;Leger et al, 1983;El Sawaf et al, 1989;Gil Collado et al,1989;Benabdennbi et al, 1999;Berchi et al, 2007;Saezet al, 2018). The specimens were placed in Marc Andre solution and heated to boiling point, and finally mounted on slides under a coverslip using Berlese solution.…”
