Different Modulating Effects of the Monoamines Adrenaline, Noradrenaline, and Serotonin on the DNA Synthesis Response of Human Peripheral Blood T Lymphocytes Activated by Mercuric Chloride and Nickel Sulfate

Abstract: The influence of adrenaline, noradrenaline, and serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) was tested on the proliferative response of peripheral blood T lymphocytes of nickel-allergic subjects to mercuric chloride and nickel sulfate. With addition of the monoamines 1 h after mercuric chloride, there was a marked suppression with all the substances at 10––4M, while adrenaline also inhibited down to a concentration of 10––5M and serotonin down to 10––7M. At 3 days after mercuric… Show more

“…When the influence of 5-HT on the proliferative response of human peripheral blood T lymphocytes to mercuric chloride [11], a polyclonal stimulator of human and animal lymphoid cells [12], was tested, an inhibited response was obtained down to a 5-HT concentration of 10~7 mol/1.…”

“…We observed a small but significant proliferative effect on Th cells activated and treated with TERB. An antiproliferation effect on T cells has been reported with various adrenergic agonists such as isoproterenol, fenoterol, NE, and the inflammatory mediator PGE 2 , which was among the strongest proliferation inhibitors [43][44][45][46][47][48][49][50]. However, TERB is relatively weak in comparison with these agonists [51].…”
