Difficulties in Translating Appetite Sensations Effect of Turmeric-Based Beverage When Given Prior to Isoenergetic Medium- or High-Fat Meals in Healthy Subjects

Abstract: The established effect of turmeric and its curcuminoids on appetite sensations was previously shown to be mediated by gut hormones release. In in vitro and preclinical studies, curcumin was shown to induce GLP-1 secretion and improve postprandial glycemia. In humans, consumption of 220 mL turmeric-based beverage (TUR, containing 185 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)) prior to white wheat bread (WWB, 50 g available carbohydrate) reduced early postprandial glucose levels and induced peptide tyrosine–tyrosine (PYY… Show more

“…PLS analysis was performed to investigate whether different BAs were associated with some of the lipid markers (TG, HDL, LDL, Apo‐A1, Apo‐B, and total cholesterol) analyzed . According to the PLS loading plot ( Figure ), CA, CDCA, UDCA, T‐UDCA, T‐CA, and T‐CDCA were negatively correlated with triglycerides, while T‐LCA tended to be positively correlated with total cholesterol, HDL, and LDL.…”

“…The turmeric powder improved the oxidative stability and microbiological quality of soft cheese [23]. Turmeric extract rich in curcumin reduced the aging of fresh lamb sausages during modified atmospheric packaging by causing less generation of related volatile compounds due to its antioxidant capacity [24]. The addition of turmeric to the dough of biscuits and breads greatly improved the antioxidant potential and organoleptic properties of breads and biscuits [25].…”
