Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage in children with interstitial lung disease: Determine etiologies!

Abstract: Objective Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) in children is a rare condition resulting from different underlying diseases. This study aimed at describing characteristics and diagnostic measures in children with ILD (children's interstitial lung disease, chILD) and DAH to improve the diagnostic approach by increasing clinician's awareness of diagnostic shortcomings. Patients and Methods A retrospective data analysis of patients with ILD and DAH treated in our own or collaborating centers between 01/07/1997 and 3… Show more

“…Such differences in workup and definitions of subgroups make it difficult to compare the different studies. A newly published retrospective study of all DAH patients in the European chILD-EU register has resulted in the suggestion of a diagnostic approach to DAH in children and descriptive clusters to guide further research [ 27 ].…”

“…DAH is a relatively rare but life-threatening disease in children. It can be caused by a wide variety of etiologies including the immnue disorders or non-immnue disorders [12,13]. The cases caused by the immune disorders such as ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV), systemic lupus erthematosus (SLE), juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) are definite immune-mediated DAH [2,12].…”
