Diffusion‐weighted SPECIAL improves the detection of J‐coupled metabolites at ultrahigh magnetic field

Jessie Mosso,
Dunja Simicic,
Bernard Lanz
et al.

Abstract: PurposeTo improve the detection and subsequent estimation of the diffusion properties of strongly J‐coupled metabolites in diffusion‐weighted MRS (DWS).MethodsA new sequence for single‐voxel diffusion‐weighted 1H MR spectroscopy, named DW‐SPECIAL, is proposed. It combines the semi‐adiabatic SPECIAL sequence with a stimulated echo diffusion block. Acquisitions with DW‐SPECIAL and STE‐LASER, the current gold standard for rodent DWS experiments at high fields, were performed at 14.1T on phantoms and in vivo on th… Show more

“…In practice, the localization is achieved using a full LASER module, whereas the diffusion block is built around nonselective STE 35 or SE 42,43 (Figure 3D). “…Diffusion gradients were applied simultaneously along three orthogonal directions (gradient duration δ = 6 ms, diffusion time Δ = 120 ms, direction [1,1,1]). A total of nine b -values (in ms/μm 2 , corrected for cross-terms ( Kunz et al, 2010 ; Mosso et al, 2024 )) with the following number of shots were acquired: 0.4 (160), 1.5 (160), 6.0 (160), 7.6 (160), 9.3 (160), 13.3 (320), 15.6 (480), 20.8 (480), and 25.1 (480).…”
