Digital image-based classification of biodiesel

Abstract: This work proposes a simple, rapid, inexpensive, and non-destructive methodology based on digital images and pattern recognition techniques for classification of biodiesel according to oil type (cottonseed, sunflower, corn, or soybean). For this, differing color histograms in RGB (extracted from digital images), HSI, Grayscale channels, and their combinations were used as analytical information, which was then statistically evaluated using Soft Independent Modeling by Class Analogy (SIMCA), Partial Least Squar… Show more

“…Therefore, we analyzed color data of RGB and grayscale channels for each 39,065 seeds and analyzed it by using pixel distribution graph. Red, green, and blue histograms were used to classify soybean seeds color, and grayscale histograms were used to detect features with distinct patterns [17]. Figure 6 shows graphs of the average values and the values of each object according to the seed brightness of the cc2-003 line using grayscale.…”

“…Computer vision, compared with traditional color measurement instruments, is a nondestructive, noncontact, low‐priced, more adaptable, and time‐saving color measurement technology. It has been used for analyzing an image of a sample by computers to obtain information about its color, texture, morphological elements, and defects …”

[10][11][12][13][14] Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis L.) is one of the most important medicinal plants, which is widely cultivated in central and south European countries, including Russia, Spain, France, and Italy. 15 Hyssop could be contaminated by different micro-organisms.…”

“…Cottonseed oil has a great potential as an alternative commercial source of biofuels production [33,34] and edible oil [35] rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). The investigation of molecular regulatory mechanism of fatty acid synthesis in developing cotton ovules is pivotal for cottonseed biodiesel development.…”
