Digital Technology and Power in Agriculture. Technology Development, Data Valorization, and Sustainability Narratives in Germany

Abstract

To investigate the political economy of digital agriculture this paper puts corporate power relations center stage and examines how corporate actors exert their power to shape, and benefit from digital agriculture in Germany, while disempowering other actors and approaches. This paper presents the results of an empirical investigation of the power relations in digital agriculture in Germany to answer the research question: How do corporate actors and existing power relations shape the development and distribution of benefits of digital agriculture in Germany?
