Purpose: The aim of the present study was to evaluate and compare the dimensional accuracy of stone models made by addition silicone impression material using three putty- wash impression techniques: one step putty wash (dual viscosity), two step and modified two step putty wash technique. Material and Methods: A stainless steel master model was constructed simulating a three-unit fixed prosthesis. Fifteen impressions were make of this master model with each impression technique. The first technique, one step dual viscosity was made with putty in the tray and light body on brass dies and impression was make. The second technique, two step putty/wash, the first step using putty on the tray with acrylic spacer on the dies and impression was make then followed by loading wash material on the dies and reseating the first impression in the second step. The third technique, modified two step made using putty/light body as in the first technique then a hole was made at the edge of two abutments in the polymerized impression, then light body was loaded into the tray and over the model and the tray is reseated. Total of forty five impressions were obtained and casts poured using type IV stone. The accuracy of these casts measured using a travelling microscope. Three dimensions diameter, height, and interabutment distances measurements were obtained and statistical analysis was done using paired T-test, One way ANOVA, and Least Significant Difference (LSD) tests. ObjectiveThe purpose of this in vitro study was to assess and compare the dimensional accuracy of three impression techniques: 1-step putty/light-body, 2-step putty/light-body, and the monophase technique. Methods A partially edentulous standard stainless steel mandibular arch cast with reference points on the teeth was used to make the impressions. The anteroposterior and transverse distances were measured. All impressions were made with a polyvinyl siloxane using stock metallic (1-and 2-step putty/light-body techniques) or acrylic resin (monophase technique) trays. The monophase impressions were made using a light-body material and the 1-and 2-step putty/light-body impressions with putty and light-body materials. After impression procedures, the accuracy of each technique was assessed measuring the stone casts (n = 5) poured from the impressions using a microscope at 30x magnification and at 0.5 µm accuracy. The data were analyzed statistically using 2-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (p<0.05). Results Stone casts made by all techniques had significantly negative linear changes (shrinkage). The anteroposterior distances showed more dimensional changes than the transverse distances. The edentulous side showed more shrinkage than the anteroposterior side. ConclusionNo differences between the impression techniques were found, but significant dimensional changes were observed.

Introduction: Dimensional accuracy when making impressions is crucial to the quality of fixed prosthodontics treatment, and impression materials are critical factors affecting this accuracy. The purpose of the study was to evaluate and compare the dimensional accuracy of resultant casts made by monophase polyether and monophase addition silicone impression materials. Materials and Methods: A stainless steel model containing two complete-veneer, fixed partial denture abutment preparations was fabricated with standardized specifications that served as a control. This was then used to compare the impression materials. Seventy gypsum casts were obtained, 35 from each impression material. All the impressions were made in stainless steel perforated custom tray. A tray space of 2 mm was provided for the impression material. Impressions of the stainless-steel model were made using monophase polyether and monophase addition silicone impression material. The accuracy of the two impression materials was assessed by measuring three dimensions (intra- and interabutment) (10-µm accuracy) on stone casts. One-way analysis of variance and Student’s t-test were used for statistical analysis. Results: No statistically significant differences were observed in the dimensional accuracy of stone dies obtained with both materials as compared to those of the stainless-steel model (p > 0.01). Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, it was found that there was no significant difference in the dimensional accuracy of resultant casts made by monophase polyether and monophase addition silicone impression materials. However, the dimensional measurements of casts fabricated from monophase addition silicone were found to be closer to control as compared to monophase polyether.
