Direct parametric reconstruction in dynamic PET myocardial perfusion imaging:in vivostudies

Abstract: Dynamic PET myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) used in conjunction with tracer kinetic modeling enables the quantification of absolute myocardial blood flow (MBF). However, MBF maps computed using the traditional indirect method (i.e. post-reconstruction voxel-wise fitting of kinetic model to PET time-activity-curves -TACs) suffer from poor signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Direct reconstruction of kinetic parameters from raw PET projection data has been shown to offer parametric images with higher SNR compared to … Show more

“…This feature greatly increases the possibility of using 15 O-water and 13 N-ammonia in hospitals without PET chemistry facilities. 18 F-flurpiridaz is a novel tracer that has shown higher accuracy than SPECT 83 and also promises quantification using direct parametric reconstruction 84 . Furthermore, machine learning used for the integration of variables has great potential in clinical practice for identifying patients with myocardial ischaemia and increased risk of events 25 .…”

“…An alternative approach is to include kinetic modeling as part of the image reconstruction process so that the reconstructed images are already parametrized in terms of MBF and partial volume units. This has the potential to produce more precise MBF values and with greater spatial resolution [30,31]. Unlike post-processing methods that are vendor-agnostic, parametric image reconstruction is highly vendor dependent as PET raw data formats are not standardized across the industry.…”

“…Based on the regularization model of FMT, there is a large number of solving methods to solve the inverse problem, such as Bayesian-based method [95,112,134], iterated shrinkage [29,72,118], pursuit method [135,136], Newton-based gradient descent method such as conjugate gradient method [109,110,[137][138][139], Split-Bregman method [10,129,136,140], etc. These optimization methods achieved good result in FMT reconstruction especially in the balance of solving accuracy and computation efficiency.…”
