Directional Paging for 5G Communications Based on Partitioned User ID

Abstract: The millimeter-wave (mmWave) spectrum is one of the important propositions of 5G mobile networks due to its ability to accommodate massive traffic demands and an ever-increasing number of wireless devices. The beam-formed directional technique overcomes the propagation and path loss challenges of mmWave high frequencies. Though the directional convergence is expected to unleash new possibilities, it cannot be implemented with conventional power-saving solutions optimized over omnidirectional communications. “…present or absent) during each PO [7,9]. If the paging message is present, the UE will perform the following operations: Multiple SSBs measurements, light sleep levels, Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) monitoring and Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) decoding [7,9,10]. Otherwise, if the paging message is absent, the UE doesn't need to perform anyone of the previous operations.…”

“…wireless systems identifies the individual user equipment (UE) nodes to the corresponding base station via wireless transmissions [10], [11], [12], [13], [14]. Conventionally, the identification information is transmitted via communication channels from a source, e.g., smart label or UE, to a sink, e.g., warehouse controller or base station, based on Shannon's principles of message transmission (communication via channels).…”

“…The efficient DRX cycle schemes, such as Enhanced Paging Monitoring (EPM) and Extended Discontinuous Reception (eDRX), aim to minimize radio resource overhead in the 5G [3]- [5]. In addition, a beam-aware DRX scheme [6] and Partitioned UE ID-based Directional Paging (PIDP) [7] are applied to alleviate the computational burden of beam search in the 5G.…”
