“…LIBS has also been tested in a variety of other forensic investigations, including document discrimination [88,209,210], fraud detection of a variety of industrial products [211], soil fingerprinting [212,213], and the study of human remains [214,215] or of samples taken from suspects [216]. The success of all these applications heavily relies on the performance of the multivariate chemometric methods used.…”

“…Looking at these spectral regions in the LIBS spectra (hologram or blank paper), four strong emission peaks could be observed at about 393, 396, 422, and 589 nm. Although it is difficult to interpret the acquired spectra, since several singleemission peaks can be overlapped in the spectra (as discussed previously), it was possible to assign these peaks mostly to neutral (422.67 nm) and ionized calcium (393.37 and 396.85 nm) [18,38] and neutral sodium (588.99 nm) [38]. However, this last peak is very close to a small peak at about 586 nm, also related to neutral calcium (585.75 nm), and is actually responsible for differentiating the authentic from the false samples together with the other cited calcium peaks.…”

“…Most publications have reported LIBS applications for the discrimination of paper types and inks [16][17][18], the identification of pigments and contaminants in historical documents [19][20][21], and in distribution and depth profile studies (of pigments, organic binders, and coat weight) of paper coatings [22][23][24]. Other specific publications include optimization studies related to the drying conditions [25] or the manufacturing process [26] of paper.…”
