Dissimilar Friction Stir Welding of Austenitic and Duplex Stainless Steel: Effect of Material Position and Tool Offset

Abstract: Dissimilar friction stir welding (FSW) of 2205 duplex stainless steel (2205 DSS) and 304 austenitic stainless steel (304 ASS) is carried out with various parameters. The effect of material position and tool offset on material flow and mixing, the microstructure, and the mechanical properties of joints are investigated, and the relationship between tool torque and material flow is determined.
