Dissociative Anesthesia in Macaco, mulatta

Abstract

Cl 744, an experimental dissociative anesthetic, is a mixture consisting of the phencyclidine derivative Tiletamine Hydrochloride (Cl 634) and Flupyrazapon (Cl 716), an agent having minor tranquilizing properties. The intramuscular administration of Cl 744 at a dose of 3 mgs/kg of body weight produces smooth induction without excitement within 2-3 minutes. Excellent muscular relaxation is evident in monkeys anesthetized with Cl 744 with no nystagmus or athetoid movements apparent. Palpebral and pharyngeal reflexes are maintained while surgical anesthesia is maintained for approximately 45 minutes with a single injection. Cl 744 is a very promising anesthetic for use in M. mulatta.
