Dissolved Oxygen Concentration Prediction Model Based on WT-MIC-GRU—A Case Study in Dish-Shaped Lakes of Poyang Lake

Abstract: Dissolved oxygen concentration has the characteristics of nonlinearity, time series and instability, which increase the difficulty of accurate prediction. In order to accurately predict the dissolved oxygen concentration in the dish-shaped lakes in Poyang Lake of Jiangxi Province, China, a dissolved oxygen concentration prediction model, based on wavelet transform (WT)-based denoising, maximal information coefficient (MIC)-based feature selection, and the gated recurrent unit (GRU), was proposed for this study… Show more

“…The current state of water quality will be affected by the previous state of water quality because the water quality cannot plummet or rise at a glance. That is, the factors which influence the water quality are timing sequence [48]. For an ANN, the output of a single hidden layer is only predicted based on the current data.…”

“…Ali et al [69] proposed a set of prediction models based on machine learning, deep learning, and statistics for predicting sea surface temperature (SST) and significant wave height (SWH), where in terms of deep learning, the authors used GRU-DNN model architecture. Chi et al [48] used a wavelet transform (WT) to denoise and used maximal information coefficient (MIC) to select features, then used GRU to predict the water quality of the dish-shaped lakes in Poyang Lake of Jiangxi Province, China.…”

“…One illustrative instance is the noticeable shrink of Poyang Lake following an extended period of reduced water levels ensuing from the impoundment of the Three Gorges Dam (Tan, Li, et al, 2019). Some studies have been conducted to investigate surface-groundwater exchange and solute transport in seasonal lakes within floodplain systems (Chi et al, 2022;Huang et al, 2022;Wohl, 2021). Rahman et al (2016) investigated the hydraulic relationship between surface water and groundwater in seasonal lakes in the Barak-Kushiyara floodplain (Bangladesh and India) based on the SWATrw model, and found that rivers maintain the water balance of seasonal lakes mainly through groundwater recharge.…”
